Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip first met when the monarch was still 8-years-old. Years later, the two royals engaged in a long-distance relationship where they sent letters to each other. Upon reaching the right age, they got married on November 20, 1947.

Today, the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are now married for 72 years. While it is a milestone for the couple to celebrate, reports revealed that Queen Elizabeth II celebrated their wedding anniversary alone.

According to People, Her Majesty went to the Royal Institute of International Affairs on the day to present an award. The award was said to be given to Sir David Attenborough and Julian Hector for their work on the Blue Planet II series.

While the day was a very important one for the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, she still made it to engage herself in a public event. This caused many royal fans to wonder where the 98-year-old prince is during that day.

Based on previous reports, the Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties in 2017. Currently, he is now staying at Sandringham to rest. Even so, there were sources who shared that the royal couple talks to each other on the phone every day.

Sources also shared that the queen joked about the day during the event. Upon her arrival, she was said to sign the visitor's book. But, before filling in the details, Queen Elizabeth II "cracked" a joke to the Chatham House director, Dr. Robin Niblett asking about the date of that day.

The director respectfully answered that it was November 20. Upon hearing the response, the queen laughed and told him that, "of course," she knows what the date is. She, then, filled the book and claimed that "it proves" her attendance at the event.

Based on these reports, it seemingly appears that the monarch has been in good shape and happy. Despite all the controversies and issues that the royal family is facing, many royal fans applauded the queen's light attitude and character, especially on public events.

In the end, though, no one knows if Queen Elizabeth II went to the estate to celebrate the anniversary with Prince Philip. But, many are certain that they talked to each other on that day.

As shared by Forbes, the royal family's social media accounts posted a series of "celebratory photos" to mark the 72nd wedding anniversary of the royal couple. It was also revealed that several members of the family congratulated Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, including Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who all turned to social media to share their warm and heartfelt greetings.
