Prince William and Prince Harry have tried their best to continue their mother’s legacy. Princess Diana was dubbed the “People’s Princess” because she was loved by many before her tragic death in 1997.
What made Princess Diana one of the most, if not the most, popular members of the Royal family is her charisma and ability to make people feel comfortable around her. Prince William and Prince Harry tried to emulate this trait, but a Royal aide reportedly wanted the brothers to stop “baring their souls” so they could focus on their duties.
Angela Levin shared in her 2018 biography, “Harry: Conversations with the Prince,” that not everyone in the royal household was pleased with the brothers’ emotional approach, in an attempt to connect with the general public. “Not surprisingly some courtiers have shown concern about both Harry’s and William’s frankness in newspaper and television interviews, particularly around the twentieth anniversary of their mother’s death in August 2017,” she explained.
Just last month, Prince Harry revealed in the ITV documentary that he and his wife Meghan Markle had been struggling being in the spotlight. They also shared how hard it is for them to deal with all the hate that they have been getting after tying the knot last year.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have all the right to share their feelings to the public, Angela Levin believes that their revelation will not make things any better for them. “[Courtiers] fear their openness will make it even harder to protect their privacy in future,” she said.
Levin also added than one aide told her that “We’ve had a lot of baring of souls recently. There comes a point when you fell ‘come on – time to crack on with your duties.’”
The biographer did share some valid points as Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle decided to sue a couple of publications last month. If they wanted less hate and privacy, Levin seemingly pointed out that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shouldn’t be so open with their feelings to the public in the first place.
Meanwhile, some netizens blamed Meghan Markle for Prince Harry’s current state. A lot of royal fans loved the younger son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, but things changed after he married the former actress.
Previous reports even claimed that fans thought that Prince Harry regressed after marrying Meghan Markle. Many believe that the harsh criticism that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are facing now is all because of the latter.
