Peng Liang, a researcher with Trip.com Group's tourist data research center, pointed out that the willingness of Chinese travelers to spend on the sector, even if it means they have to spend overseas, is a display of higher living standards and stabilizing incomes.

Overseas travels by Chinese tourists during local holidays and the display of excellent spending behaviors among this group of consumers will benefit the global tourism sector, Peng said.

The stability of incomes among Chinese consumers was further exemplified in the fact that 90 percent of Trip.com's users have opted for private travel products and services - which are more pricey than regular packaged deals.
