The Yinhuang Qingfei Capsule, the first-ever traditional Chinese bronchitis medicine, passed a one-year trial at a clinical research center in Pakistan on Saturday.
The medicine successfully passed the testing against an antibiotic medicine competitor and was declared suitable and effective for the Pakistani population, according to results by a Pakistani clinical research committee.
Raza Shah, University of Karachi's International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences general manager for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research, presented the study results at a ceremony.
Safe And Effective
Shah announced that the research team performed a randomized a double-blind clinical trial of the efficacy and safety of the Anbang Pharmaceutical Yinhuang Qingfei Capsule against Amoxi.
Amoxicillin, a commonly used drug in Pakistan, "is losing its effectiveness against bacteria because of resistance, so there was a need for alternative medicine and Yinhuang Qingfei proved to be a good alternative," said Shah
Shad stressed that the Chinese capsule was effective against bronchitis in the Chinese population and that the clinic trail in the research center found it to be equally effective in the Pakistani population.
Traditional Method Works
In the trial period, a total of 212 patients were treated and the efficacy against cough was 72.8 percent for Yinhuang Qingfei and 71.8 percent for Amoxicillin-Clavulanate, the study said.
ICCBS Manager Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary said, for the first time in Pakistan, the trial of traditional Chinese medicine is a landmark move that will open up new opportunities for medical cooperation between the two countries.
Choudhary said the majority of the Pakistani population believes and trusts in the traditional treatment method, which has indicated a broad scope for traditional medicine research and development in Pakistan.
Wide Scope Of Cooperation
Zhang Jian, Chairman of the Hunan Industry and Commerce Federation, told the audience that the clinical trial's success demonstrates that Chinese patent medicine has reached Pakistan officially.
"China and Pakistan have a broad range of cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine and I hope more businesses, experts and scholars are dedicated to cooperation in the field of trade and research," Zhang said.
China and Pakistan signed a joint agreement in November 2018 to boost cooperation in traditional medicines. Before the declaration, the China-Pakistan TCM Clinic Research Center was founded by China's Hunnan University of Chinese Medicine, the ICCBS and Anbang Pharmaceutical to enhance bilateral medical studies.
