BTS’ dance line is called the 3J and it is consists of J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. While the three of them have amazing skills, a former idol trainer explains why J-Hope is the main dancer of the group and not Jimin, who was a top student in Busan arts high school from all departments.

Although J-Hope doesn’t have that bragging rights like Jimin, the 25-year-old rapper, songwriter, dancer, and record producer was a part of the underground dance team Neuron and took dance classes at Gwangju Music Academy before joining BTS. Prior to his debut, he is already known for his dancing skills and won various local dance competitions. He even placed first in a national dance competition in 2008.

The former idol trainer recently gave his thoughts on J-Hope and Jimin’s dancing style. As expected, he praised both boys for their incredible skills but then pointed out the reason why J-Hope is the main dancer of BTS.

“It’s true that both of them are world-class dancers,” he said. “They each have their own style that pulls people in.”

He stated that Jimin has a specific style that only Jimin can do. The 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and dancer can also turn any dance move into his own. The former idol trainer said that even Jimin himself would have a hard time explaining how to do his moves as it comes to him naturally and can not be learned.

“Jimin is able to ‘Jimin-ify’ all dances,” he noted. “He captures all details of the dance.”

As for J-Hope, the former idol trainer summed up his dance style with one word: precision. He also pointed out that the BTS star is very effortless when he dances, making it appear that the choreography is easier than it actually is.

“He used big yet precise dance moves,” he said. “Although it looks effortless, it actually uses up a lot of energy.”

So why is J-Hope the main dancer of BTS? Koreaboo reported that the former idol trainer “thinks that some people may be curious as to why J-Hope is the dance leader of the group and not Jimin. He thinks that it is because of J-Hope’s ability to match his style of dance to the concept as well as his calculations and processing for the choreography that he is able to help the members create a balance for the performance.”

He shared that “[J-Hope] knows how to let other members shine by being the maestro on stage.”
