China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea's new meeting of leaders has enhanced mutual trust, unity, and trilateral cooperation in key areas of global trade and foreign engagement, experts and officials said.
The Trilateral Cooperation Vision for the Next Decade and the Trilateral + X Cooperation Early Harvest Projects were published by China, Japan and the Republic of Korea on Tuesday at the 8th China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting in Chengdu, China's southwest region.
The meeting once again made the world aware of the three countries' impact on regional and global issues, said Liu Di, professor at Kyorin University's Faculty of Social Sciences in Tokyo.
Great achievements have been made over the past 20 years in the three countries' trilateral partnership, which has played an important role in rationally guiding the growth of the world economy, Liu said.
Japanese Professor's Views
At a time of unprecedented instability in international order and economic and trade ties, mutual trust and cooperation between the three countries are of great importance to both the region and the world, the professor added.
Actually, there is rising attention in East Asia to non-traditional security issues, Liu said, adding that the three countries should share wide space for cooperation in these areas.
Former Secretary General of the Trilateral Cooperation Committee, Lee Jong, stressed that the three countries have achieved greater consensus on how to foster peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia through the meeting, which will further strengthen regional cooperation.
The three countries have continued in-depth exchanges and collaboration on common issues in areas such as the protection of the environment, health, and other key social issues which will bring benefits to their citizens.
Ateneo Lecturer's Views
Lucio Blanco Pitlo, a lecturer at Ateneo de Manila University with the Chinese Studies Program said the meeting provided an important communication forum between the three Northeast Asian countries.
The leaders of China, Japan, and the ROK agreed to handle disagreements, maintain free trade and multilateralism and recognize the full denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and permanent peace in the region said Lucio.
As growing uncertainties on global trade worry investors, further enhancing trilateral cooperation between the three countries is conducive to regional peace and stability, as well as global prosperity and growth added Lucio.
The three nations have strengthened unity in safeguarding free trade, which will play a major role in stabilizing global economic growth and preserving trade balance, Suryono noted.
Subomoy Bhatacharjee, an economic strategist at India-based Research and Information System for Developing Countries said he recognized China's positive role in the China-Japan-ROK cooperation process, adding that the country is fully committed to maintaining peace and stability in North-East Asia.
