Sure it was hard to forget that at last year's edition, Google made quite a splash in Las Vegas, but there will be no theme park built for the CES 2020. Instead, the search giant revealed the upcoming features of Google Assistant that will make the AI bot smarter than ever.
The feature bumps to be wrapped soon on the voice assistant seem inspired by the increasing number of users now reliant on the service, estimated by Google to have already reached half-a-billion at least.
ZDNet said the exact figures were not provided by the company, but a ballpark estimate would be more than 500 million users subscribed to the service and relying on their digital needs each month.
In addition, Google said Google Assistant is now installed on over one million devices around the world, and to celebrate that milestone support will be extended to other devices. Soon enough, Google's voice command capability will find its way on air conditioning units, vacuums, coffeemakers, and bathtubs.
With its presence felt by more people and can be accessed on more devices, it should be automatic that Google Assistant will gain more features. Such was the meat of the announcements issued by Google through the CES this year and as outlined below:
Human-like reading
According to TechCrunch, one of the more exciting upgrades to Google Assistant is the ability to read a web page and in a smart way. That means an article will be read out to a user, and only the relevant texts will be covered. This will happen as the page gradually scrolls down or up, which certainly should be an added cool feature.
Request one command
The digital assistant will also permit users to make one request per day, like a command set to be executed at a given time. An example is the muting of notifications during a scheduled meeting or when it is sleeping time.
Sticky notes and speed dial
These are user-generated information that will be posted on the lock-screen of a smart device. The sticky notes, obviously, are to make sure that a reminder will be acted up. The speed dial will make it easy to reach contacts pinned on the lock-screen, which should be useful in times of emergency.
Data purging
Google Assistant will soon be able to erase the recording of users' last interaction with the service by use of voice command. By merely saying, "Hey Google, that wasn't for you," the AI will zap the data out of existence. Google said this function will be extended for up to a week as part of the company's improved data privacy protocol.
The rollout time of these new features has yet to be set, and per the same report, Google only committed the activation later this 2020, which likely will be timed with the arrival of Android 11 and compatible devices.
