Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that Washington had a role to play in the Ukrainian plane crash that Iran admitted to mistakenly shooting down last week.

According to The Guardian, Trudeau said "if there were no tensions, if there was no escalation recently in the regions, those Canadians would be right now home with their families."

Trudeau went on to argue that while international powers had a clear understanding that Iran's nuclear actions should be blocked, the White House should have been more careful of "managing tensions in the region."

He added that Ottawa would have appreciated if the U.S. gave them a heads up regarding President Donald Trump's order to launch an airstrike against Iran. The said strikes killed General Qasem Soleimani, a top military leader well loved by his people.

The Canadian leader's comments came as protests ensue in Iran following Tehran's admission on Friday that it unintentionally shot down the Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 passenger jet where there were mostly Iranians on board.

Of the 176 passengers and crewmembers that were killed due to the crash, Ottawa said there were 57 Canadian citizens. The rest were Iranians, Afghans, Ukrainians, Britons, Swedes, and Germans.

Before Tuesday's airing of Trudeau's statements, the Canadian prime minister previously called on a "full and complete" probe into the crash to find out who was truly responsible for the deaths of all passengers on board the Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 airliner.

Trudeau has also signaled that Ottawa would demand financial compensation for the victims' families, especially as protests are also up in Iran for the current regime to step down.

Meanwhile, other people have also aired their sentiments on the latest development in the U.S.-Iran conflict. Chief executive of Canadian food packaging firm Maple Leaf Foods, Michael McCain, took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

McCain tweeted that the Trump administration partly shares the blame in the accident. According to CNN, McCain referred to the developments as "a needless, irresponsible series of events."

The corporate chief went on to reveal that the wife and 11-year-old son of one of his colleagues in the company were among the victims of the Ukrainian Boeing jet tragedy.

Meanwhile, arrests have been made in relation to the accidental downing of the airliner. The Iranian judiciary's announcement came after the government called for a special court to handle the investigations on the crash.

According to ABC News, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the accident was an "unforgivable error." He went on to pledge that his country would rightfully punish the people responsible for the tragedy.
