Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced last week that they would be stepping down from being senior royals. Queen Elizabeth, then, summoned the main members of the royal family to discuss the matter.
The Buckingham Palace, recently, released a statement from Queen Elizabeth after a “very constructive discussion” with Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. There, she called her grandson and his wife as simply Harry and Meghan, instead of their royal titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” the statement read. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
A royal commentator, now, revealed the real reason why Queen Elizabeth called the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as Harry and Meghan. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express that Her Majesty not addressing the couple with their titles may have nothing to do with them being not senior royals anymore.
“The Queen’s references to them without using their titles was meant to be more intimate, not a threat to remove them, but they may at some future time decide to give them up,” he said. “What we saw with the Queen’s statement was approval, that she had no option but to give. It was, as one would expect from the monarch, as dignified and warm as the circumstances permitted and included her regrets.”
Richard Fitzwilliams pointed out that based on Queen Elizabeth’s statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s withdrawal will be resolved soon. It is worth noting that Her Majesty said that the final decisions will be “reached in the coming days.”
“The idea that it could be sorted out quickly is likely to mean only that the Queen will ensure that the mechanism is in place to do so but in the weeks, months and years to come stepping aside may well mean stepping down as a royal,” the royal commentator continued.
It was previously believed that Queen Elizabeth’s choice to call the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as Harry and Meghan was a hint that the couple may have lost their titles. While the royal commentator made some valid points, fans will just have to wait and see until the official statement regarding this whole matter is released.
