COVID-19 has unfortunately taken over our everyday lives so it's critical that we change our practices, from the very simple task of washing our hands correctly to disinfecting the entire house. What not a lot of people realize is that we can turn to tech to help combat the spread of the coronavirus.

If you got yourself a Google Home or Google Nest, you can actually take advantage of it and set up voice control to perform certain household tasks. Doing so will allow you to touch less of everyday items, so there are fewer instances of exchanging germs, bacteria, and viruses. The novel coronavirus, for instance, can live on ordinary surfaces for up to nine days. Just think of how touching less can help you and everybody around you.

You can start off with touching less of your computers, tablets, and smartphones, which is almost an impossible task, but there's actually a way to minimize your tinkering with your beloved gadgets. It's time to use Google Assistant more.

Google Assistant can provide you with all sorts of information that you mostly prefer to ask by typing. At home, you simply have to set up your Google Home device so you can get accurate results and to make sure Assistant performs a certain task on your behalf.

For example, to check today's traffic, make sure Google Home knows where your regular whereabouts are, like the place of your work or school, or even your favorite bar. You can always add places by accessing "Your places" on the Settings option.

For weather updates, type in your current home address so that Google Home shows the forecast of your town or city. To watch your favorite news program, add your favorite show if you want to see it by default. For music, find "Google Assistant services" and tap "Music" to have your accounts linked.

If you're into a lot of TV, Google Home can take care of that as well. A lot of TV sets sold in the market today like LG and Sony have built-in Google Assistant option, but if yours does not, you can always buy Chromecast so your TV can be controlled by Google Home.

Make sure your TV's linked to your Google Home app so you can control without having to touch anything. You can binge-watch on Hulu or Netflix, change the channel, adjust volume, and turn it on and off with just the sound of your voice.
