A new report claims that the iOS 14 code has hinted at details about the upcoming iPhone 9. While Apple hasn't said anything about its low-budget smartphone, it's now being purported that there's going to be a larger version of the entry-level device, which is going to be called "iPhone 9 Plus."
The iPhone 9, which is also being called iPhone SE 2, is believed to be Apple's new entry-level smartphone. Various reports indicate that the rumored device will sport a 4.7-inch LCD display and a Home button with a built-in Touch ID.
Before we proceed to its expected features, we'd like to remind readers that the iPhone 9, iPhone 9 Plus, and iPhone SE 2 are speculative names. Apple has not named its upcoming low-budget smartphone as of writing, but it's expected to arrive along with the release of iOS 13.4 this spring.
Both the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus will reportedly sport the same chipset as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro: Apple's A13 Bionic processor. If it's true, it would make the upcoming device more appealing to customers, especially to those still using the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7 and don't want to spend a lot of money on more expensive models.
Apple's rumored new entry-level iPhones are believed to shop with a solid-state Home button, a borrowed feature from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. This feature makes use of the Taptic Engine to reduce hardware failures and simulate clicks, as it comes without any moving parts.
As the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus are meant to be entry-level models, it won't have the Face ID feature and will instead have Touch ID. The upcoming devices will allow users to scan NFC tags in the background, which is not available in all iPhones. Users can also take advantage of the Express Transit feature, as well as Apple Pay.
While the report should be taken with a grain of salt, it's worth noting that there is some sense to the iPhone 9 Plus rumor, considering the model it's replacing -- the iPhone 8 -- comes in two variants, the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch model. We'll confirm the news as information becomes available.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that fourth-gen iPad Pro will come in four versions: models J417, J418, J420, and J421, 9to5Mac reports. It's expected to feature a flight-of-time sensor and a new triple-lens camera.
