The fourth-generation Audi A3 Sportback had a successful global launch earlier this year, but the automaker isn't done yet with its launch plans for this year. A new report claims that a sedan derivative will debit in late 2020 as a 2021 model, and while Audi has no official confirmation yet, car enthusiasts are already making their bets on what to expect.

The A3 Sportback should give you a rough idea of what the upcoming sedan will look like, although the 2021 model will sport a more aggressive and sportier look. But the rear doors will reportedly look the same, despite the sedan's more angular and chiseled outfit. As for the interior of the upcoming car, expect a really good infotainment system with huge display screens.

The Audi A3 Sedan will be available in all-wheel and front-wheel drive options. The U.S. version will get a bigger 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with around 240 horsepower as an entry-level engine. Note that the Europe version has a smaller gasoline engine and a TDI turbo-diesel.

Next to the entry-level engine is the S3, capable of delivering around 300 horsepower from its high-performance 2.0-liter turbo-four. Next up is the successor of the ultra-high-performance RS3, with its own turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five delivering an outstanding 400 horsepower. Given Mercedes-AMG decided to keep the "S" version of its CLA45 away from the American market, the RS3 is expected to top the list in this segment.

Coming to the U.S. is also the A3 e-tron, which will be sold as a Sportback and not with a sedan body style. It will be powered by an electric motor and a 1.4-liter gasoline engine, giving the hybrid car 240 horsepower. Apart from the plug-in hybrid vehicle, all the others will be sold as a four-door sedan.

As for the prices of the upcoming vehicles, the updated Audi A3 will start at $34,300, which isn't far from the current model. It can go higher all the way to $58,000 for the RS3. The 2021 model will be in close competition with the BMW 2-series Gran Coupe and the Mercedez Benz CLA. However, there's a chance it will be cross-shopped with vehicles as diverse as the Genesis G70 and the Cadillac CT4. Let's find out when it comes out.

We would like to reiterate that Audi hasn't made any comments relating to the report, but it's expected that the redesigned A3 will arrive soon.
