Instagram has got some amazing updates that just made it more user-friendly. First, it allowed direct messages on the web, and now, you can watch Instagram Live on your desktop computer too.

Some lucky Instagram users noticed that livestreams have become viewable on the web. It also allows two-person streams but you get to have a bigger screen and the comments are separated from the video. There still isn't an option to start a broadcast using your desktop computer, so for now, it's not going to be your newest go-to when it comes to livestreaming services. But it's a great start to making the platform more useable. We're using our phones most of the time these days and it deserves a break even for a short while.

Late last week, Instagram announced that everyone using the social network can now receive and send direct messages using their desktop computers. The company previously tested the feature back in January, allowing users to use the web to message their friends in case their mobile phones weren't available.

Instagram says it's hoping that the update will make it easier for people to stay connected. In March, the company also rolled out an update that allowed users to look at posts together using video chat.

Allow direct messages via desktop browsers is in line with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's broader vision for the future. According to the exec, the company aims to improve the three fastest-growing areas of online communication, which are "private messaging, groups, and Stories."

Zuckerberg also wants to develop a system that would allow users on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to message each other, regardless of which platform they're on. It's possible that using a web browser is the key to make this system a reality. It also makes the three platforms more flexible, given its features are mostly focused on mobile phone usage.

Direct messaging via web browsers will especially benefit people who use Instagram all the time, such as social media managers, influencers, and reporters. This way, they won't be limited to using their phones every time they need to do something on the platform, particularly when one needs to message hundreds of users per day. Admittedly, using a real keyboard to type is easier than using the one on your phone screen.

Instagram says its rolling out the new features to all users globally. Give it a go right now.
