Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's newly-bought mansion in Montecito is, reportedly, listed under the Duchess of Sussex's name. Public records, apparently, show that the property is tied to Meghan's tax record instead of her husband's.
According to Los Angeles Times, the $14.65 million property is linked under the Duchess of Sussex's limited liability company (LLC). However, buying a house under a shell company is apparently not an unusual practice in the U.S. for celebrities or the rich and privilege who want to protect their privacy.
Prince Harry and Meghan took out a $10 million mortgage, to be repaid with interest until 2050, to obtain the Montecito mansion. The house was, apparently, sold at a bargain as its original price was listed for as much as $34 million before the previous owner, a Russian investor, dropped the price tag.
The couple, then, made a $5 million down payment with their own money. Amid reports that Prince Charles party funded this home purchase, sources told Us Weekly that Prince Harry and Meghan didn't ask financial help from any members of the royal family.
The source said that Prince Harry could have asked his father for the money but he didn't want Prince Charles financially involved because it goes against their plans to be independent. Prince Harry, reportedly, loves the feeling of paying for the house with their own money.
But, Meghan's tax records are in the mansion since Prince Harry is still a British citizen and has no plans to secure an American green card. According to Entertainment Tonight, the Duke of Sussex is likely going to be an O-1 visa holder if he's going earn an income in the U.S.
Repaying the mortgage will also not be a problem for the Sussex couple. Aside from Prince Harry's personal wealth and inheritance money, Meghan apparently still collects royalties from her old TV show, Suits. Reruns of the series are currently running on Netflix in many countries. The Duchess of Sussex earned $50,000 per episode when she used to act on the show.
Prince Harry and Meghan are, also, rounding up some jobs in Hollywood that will help support their lifestyle. The couple reportedly pitched projects with NBC and other networks, while they also have various speaking engagements as arranged by the Harry Walker Agency.
Soon, Prince Harry and Meghan are also launching Archewell, their new foundation. They plan to establish a global charity that will address social issues like racism, equality, responsible use of the digital platform as well as their current advocacies.
