Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world earlier this year when they announced their withdrawal from royal life. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared that they wish to step down from their senior royal roles to focus on their family and charities while living a more peaceful life and be “financially independent.”

Despite their shocking announcement, Queen Elizabeth released a statement saying that she and the Royal Family members support Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision. Now, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex shares her opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s withdrawal in an intimate interview.

Sophie told The Sunday Times' Christina Lamb that she hopes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to be happy. "Remember I'd had five years to adjust. And for our six-month engagement, I was even staying at Buckingham Palace. Not that you necessarily know how it will pan out,” she said.

According to Prince Edward’s wife, Meghan Markle may have struggled with adjusting to the spotlight. Although the Duchess of Sussex was an actress before tying the knot with Prince Harry two years ago, meaning she should have been used to the limelight, she may have realized that being a celebrity and a royal are two completely different things.

Sophie’s revelation seemed to apply to previous reports saying that Prince William told Prince Harry to not rush things. While the Duke of Cambridge only meant well when he advised his brother to slow things down, the Duke of Sussex, reportedly, didn’t take it well as he saw it as criticism. He was, also, upset that he felt that his older brother was not being supportive of his relationship with Meghan Markle.

Meanwhile, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle were once known as the “Royal Fab Four.” While the Cambridges and Sussexes worked really well at first, many have noticed that their bond slowly became less close.

In fact, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle removed themselves from their joint foundation with Prince William and Kate Middleton, seemingly confirming a feud. A report then claimed that Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, could be the replacements for the Sussexes in the “Royal Fab Four.”

Royal fans praised Kate Middleton and Sophie’s team-up for the International Nurses Day back in May. Many were impressed with their bond, which led to the possibility that a new “Royal Fab Four” may be on the horizon.
