The first movie Meghan Markle pitched to Netflix is reportedly about Patrisse Cullors. She is the founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the Duchess of Sussex wants her life story translated onto the screen.

According to Daily Mirror, Cullors' work to uplift minority voices blew away the Duchess of Sussex. She feels excited to be the person to tell her story because she believes it is an important tale for the public to learn from.

The 36-year-old activist started Black Lives Matter in 2013 with friends Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi after the killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida. What started as a hashtag on the internet to oppose the acquittal of Martin's killer, George Zimmerman, became a protest call.

Cullors and her movement aim to erase white supremacy in America's culture. They also want to build on ways to prevent violence against Black people.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Cullors said that her day job is as the reinvestment director at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland, California. But she developed a passion for studying the impact of policing and incarceration in Black communities.

Cullors said that she has family members who have been in and out of the prison system. She has witnessed a lot of violence in her life and Black Lives Matter saved her.

As the nationwide protest rallies ignited up the streets of America in May and June, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex apparently met with some members of the movement to educate them on Black Lives Matter. It's unclear if Cullors was one of the people to personally engage the Sussex pair.

However, reports stated that this planned movie is close to the heart of Meghan. According to Nine News Australia, Cullors' film will be a biopic.Details as to the script, directors or cast have not been laid out yet. The movie is still waiting for a greenlight from the streaming giant.

Prior to their Netflix deal, reports revealed that Harry and Meghan were working out a female-centric TV show that also touched on racial inequality and empowerment. The pair wanted this project to impact the young women of today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also pitched Cullors' story to NBCUniversal and other studios, as confirmed by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings. They decided to go with Netflix because of the platform's global reach, with over 180 million subscribers.
