Lee Hyori revealed the real reason why she quit Instagram early this month.
According to a report by Koreaboo, Lee Hyori said she quit the platform because she was spending too much time on the platform.
Lee Hyori said she noticed that she was losing time for her husband and even her cat because she was too engrossed in checking Instagram. Hyori admitted that another reason that she quit the platform was because there were too many people sending her direct messages that she could not respond to.
Among those messages were requests for money. The singer said that she could not attend to everyone's request but she also does not have the personality to ignore them.
It can be recalled that Lee Hyori made her final Instagram post last September 2, informing her fans days before that she was quitting the social media platform. It was earlier believed that Hyori decided to leave after she received a huge amount of criticism about a statement she made on Yoo Jae Suk's show.
In an interview, members of Refund Expedition were asked about their plans to promote internationally, Korea Times reported.
Hyori casually commented that she could take on the name of Mao for a more Chinese sounding appeal. However, Chinese netizens did not take kindly to the comment, saying that Lee Hyori was being disrespectful to former Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
Within 48 hours, Lee Hyori's Instagram was flooded by 100,000 hate comments from netizens who were unhappy with her statement. Some fans took her side and said that the Mao surname may not pertain to the Chinese leader.
After quitting Instagram, Lee Hyori clarified that she was not overly sensitive to negative comments because she has been in the industry for a long time already. She said that she has learned to take everything in as part of being a celebrity.
She said that people in the industry encouraged her not to quit Instagram but her husband did.
