Meghan Markle and Prince Harry emerged as the least eco-friendly members of the royal family, according to a new study. The Sussex pair emerged with the highest environmental impact after Save On Energy conducted an analysis of 10 royals and their green living habits.

The Duchess of Sussex scored her highest eco-friendly behavior under sustainable fashion, while the Duke of Sussex had the greatest number of points in social media posts about the environment. However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry both earned just nine points each for their total eco-friendly habits because of their lack of environmental causes and charities.

The study did a comparison of the royal family members' travel footprint, sustainability lifestyle, support for environmental causes and their active advocacy in environmental issues. The activities covered were from March 2019 to March 2020, with the study analysts referring to the Royal Travel Report to determine carbon footprint and the royals' social media platforms.

After carefully giving points to the greatest number of eco-friendly participations, Prince Charles emerged the greenest royal with 156 points. In second place after the Prince of Wales was his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who had 84 points.

Prince Philip came in third with 44 points while his wife, the Queen had 23 points and was at number five. In number four was actually Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge who was a few notches higher than Queen Elizabeth with 29 points. Prince William, Prince Edward and Princess Anne were the sixth, seventh and eighth in the ranking, respectively.

Prince Charles, however, performed the worst when it came to travel as he apparently still charters flights for his royal engagements. Prince William was a close second followed by Harry and Meghan.

However, Save On Energy also said that the royal family generally did better than the previous year. Collectively, they reduced their carbon footprint by at least 77 percent. The study experts said that it helped that the royals stopped using the RAF Voyager for many of their royal trips.

But, since September 2019, Prince Harry has been more and more vocal about environmental causes. He launched Travalyst to help with the sustainability efforts of the travel industry.

Meghan, on the other hand, tops the other royals when it came to supporting eco-friendly fashion. She makes the conscious effort to wear clothes and accessories from sustainable brands and designers like Stella McCartney, Millie, Veja and Rothy.

The Duchess of Sussex has been dubbed as the ethical tastemaker while Kate only comes second to her sister-in-law in this regard. Sources said that Meghan Markle's eco-friendly fashion choices are intentional as she likes brands with substance and respect for the planet and the people.
