A two-month-old girl who was found to have heroin in her system after being found unconscious with needle marks on her skin at a West Texas home over the weekend has died, police said Thursday.
The San Angelo police said Brixlee Marie Lee died Tuesday at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where was on life support after police found her unresponsive.
Police said that officers rushed the baby to a San Angelo hospital Saturday after responding to a call of an unconscious infant. Later that day, Brixlee was taken to Cook Children's, where she remained on life support until she died.
Hospital staff found injection marks on the infant's head and extremities, and her urine tested positive for the drug, authorities said.
According to police, Destiney Harbour - the infant's 21-year-old mother - gave birth at the home in late August. The baby had not been given any health care since birth, police said.
Three people have been charged with a first-degree crime for the baby's death, news reports said. Charged with serious bodily injury to a child include the baby's mother, Harbour's mother, 37-year-old Christin Bradley and Bradley's boyfriend, 34-year-old Dustin Smock.
Authorities said while they were enforcing a search warrant inside the house, they found drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of suspected heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine and pills.
An investigation continues and the corpse body has been sent for a post mortem, police said. Authorities said it was a continuing investigation and the three suspects may be charged in the future.
Harbour and Smock were detained at the Tom Green County Jail, Thursday. Bail for Harbour was set at $100,000, while Smock's bond was $50,000. Bradley was released Sunday on $50,000 bail.
