What effect does the temperature of water have on our weight?

The body is made up of more than 70% water. Water is an important part of our bodies and can be said to be the key to surviving longer as it helps carry oxygen and nutrients to cells and organs, controls body temperature, moisturizes the skin, helps digestion, and filters contaminants. In fact, not consuming liquids for a few days could lead to death.

Activities in direct sunshine, working out in warm conditions, and other activities involving multiple motions result in sweating. Afterward, it feels so refreshing to drink a glass of ice-cold water.

You need to refill the fluid when you lose water by perspiration. The recommendation "drink eight glasses of water a day" should be taken into account as it helps reduce dehydration and improves metabolism.

Some people may be afraid, though, that they may gain weight if they drink cold water. Worry not because this has been proved to be a myth.

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism states that drinking cold water may potentially help you lose weight. In fact, water has zero calories, so it is unlikely for drinking water-cold or room temperature-to cause weight gain.

Cold water increases the metabolic rate. As cold water enters the body, carbohydrates and fat are burned to produce sugar, which in turn generates heat and balances the temperature of the body's core system.

Drinking lots of water every day tends to offset the water lost by sweat and urination. But don't worry about adding more ice cubes to a glass of water. Remember that this would not have a major effect on weight loss as much as a balanced diet and physical activity.

The results of drinking cold water can be different for each person, based on internal and external factors. Internal factors may be linked to the immune system and how the body reacts to something that has a low temperature. Climate and events can be external influences.

Remember, the theory only works when you drink ice-cold mineral water. Coke, iced tea, and iced coffee do not count.

So, enjoy water, cold, warm or hot, whichever you want. But make sure you drink enough water every day. It is the only remedy that can keep you hydrated and avoid side effects associated with dehydration such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, low urination, lower skin elasticity, dry mouth, and low blood pressure.
