Meghan Markle still feels slighted, disappointed and hurt that Kate Middleton did not make any attempts to bond with her and form a close friendship as sisters-in-law.

According to a source, the Duchess of Sussex was hoping that the Duchess of Cambridge would welcome her warmly into the royal family but the latter apparently didn't give their relationship a chance to develop. The source said that Markle was frustrated that Middleton didn't give her the benefit of the doubt, especially when she was struggling with her life as a working royal.

The source further added that had the situation been reversed, Meghan would have taken the extra mile and welcomed Kate as family. Instead, the two struggled to find a commonality between them as confirmed in the Sussex biography, Finding Freedom.

The public expected Meghan and Kate to have a good relationship as sisters-in-law but a problem was brewing behind the scenes as well between their husbands, Prince Harry and Prince William. As a result, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to break free from Kensington Palace, the former royal office they shared with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Meghan and Harry also decided to uproot their lives to California with their son, Archie, and they have been living in the U.S. for more than a year. Middleton and William, on the other hand, have focused on their royal work in the U.K. and took on more responsibilities as the royal family's official working royals have slimmed down in the absence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Now Meghan and Kate might have another reason to be competitive against each other as they both have new books out.

Kate recently launched Hold Still, her photography book photo highlighting submissions from the British people during their life in lockdown in 2020. Markle, on the other hand, will release her children's book, The Bench, in June, which was inspired by the poem she wrote for Harry who became a father for the first time in 2019.

A source told New Idea that some insiders feel Meghan is stealing Kate's thunder with the book release and a few scoffed at her book's theme about dads and their children since she doesn't have a good relationship with her own father. Other critics also blamed Meghan for impacting Harry's relationship with Prince Charles in a negative way.

Meanwhile, another source said that the claims Meghan Markle made against her rift with Kate in a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey further divided the sisters-in-law. Apparently, Harry's wife also knew that Kate will not be able to fight back so she was brazen enough to publicly humiliate her. Now, it's William who is said to be more resentful of Meghan for dragging down his wife and treating her unfairly in the media.
