In protest of the ongoing scandal about the lack of diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's membership, Tom Cruise joins the boycott by returning the three Golden Globe trophies he won over the years, Screen Rant reported Tuesday.

The HFPA was heavily criticized for not having a single Black member in its ranks, and for snubbing Black productions in favor of head-scratchers like Music and Emily in Paris.

The trophies Cruise just sent back to HFPA headquarters are the award he won for Jerry Maguire (best actor), the prize he won for Born on the Fourth of July (best actor) and the award he received for Magnolia (best supporting actor).

Cruise is the latest star to protest, including Amazon, Netflix and NBC among others over the sluggish stance the HFPA has in improving its lack of diversity, according to The Deadline.

The Golden Globes have been plagued by controversy all year, resulting in censure from actors like Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and other celebrities.

"The HFPA is an organization that was legitimized by the likes of Harvey Weinstein to amass momentum for Academy recognition, and the industry followed suit," Johansson said, according to Indie Wire.

In the most pointed denunciation of the HFPA so far, NBC said on Monday they would not air the Globes ceremony next year.

Finally, in the most pointed rebuke of the HFPA so far, NBC announced on Monday they would not air next year's Golden Globes ceremony.

"We continue to believe the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes," Indie Wire quoted the broadcast network as saying.

At the time of this writing, the HFPA has not responded to Cruise's protest.
