The Bukit Jalil National Stadium vaccination facility is expected to begin operations starting June 21, Youth and Sports Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican said.

The stadium has a capacity to administer up to 10,000 Covid-19 shots per day. A total of 5,510,720 doses have been given as of Friday, Malaysian Health Minister Adham Baba said, as the opening of the new mega center is set to increase Malaysia's immunization capabilities.

China

Hundreds of flights were canceled and part of a city has been placed under lockdown in Southern China as the province of Guangdong witnesses an increase in Covid-19 infections.

Health authorities in Guangdong reported six new Covid-19 cases Saturday, two of those coming from Shenzhen and one each in Dongguan and Foshan, The South China Morning Post said.

Thailand

Health officials have started human clinical trials with two of four locally developed vaccine candidates against the virus, as Thailand scrambles to secure shots from other countries in the wake of its worst wave of infections since the pandemic broke out.

For now, Thailand is relying on a combination of treatments from overseas pharmaceutical companies to reach herd immunity by end of the year.

Philippines

The shipment of the first batch of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccines has been pushed back because of logistical issues.

Instead of June 21, the Philippines vaccine implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said the arrival of 250,000 doses in the country has been moved to June 25, according to CNN Philippines.

"The problems we encounter are transportation and logistical challenges. It's only four days delayed and that's normal...we can't avoid delays," Galvez said.

Indonesia

The country will get 50 million doses of the vaccine jointly produced by Pfizer and BioNTech. The first batch is expected to arrive in August, a senior health ministry official said Saturday.

Indonesia targets to inoculate 182 million people by next year. As of Saturday, 12.2 million people received two doses of other vaccines, health officials said.

Singapore

Some people in Singapore started receiving Covid-19 vaccines produced by China's Sinovac at private clinics Saturday, even as one of the city-state's top health officials cast doubt on its safety and efficacy.

"It does give the impression that the effectiveness of different vaccines will vary quite significantly," The Straits Times quoted Kenneth Mak, Singapore's chief of medical services, as saying.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 109 new local Covid-19 cases Saturday in eight localities, with cases in Ho Chi Minh City closely following the second worst-hit locality, Bac Ninh.

Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh account for most of the infections, at 5,114, 1,499 and 1,450, VNExpress reported.

India

This month, Brazilian health regulator Anvisa reportedly gave conditional authorization for the import of 4 million doses of Covaxin which is produced by India's Bharat Biotech, after the regulator denied a certificate for good manufacturing practices for its plant in April.

Worldwide

There are currently 1.78 million cases of Covid-19 internationally. About 3.86 million have died from the virus.
