A man in China has been reunited with his son after 24 years motorcycling more than 500,000 kilometers in search of his boy.

Guo Gangtang's son, Guo Xinzhen, went missing September 1997. He was two years, five months old when kidnapped in front of their home in eastern Shandong province - where he was playing unattended, reports said.

"Today is very important for me. My kid has been found. The future is full of happiness," The Star quoted Guo as saying in a post on a China news site.

Child abductions are a problem in China - with thousands being snatched every year, the BBC reported.

The kidnappers sold the boy to a family in central China, the Ministry of Public Security said.

Authorities were able to trace the son's identity through DNA testing, according to MPS.

Guo and his wife cried and hugged their son during the reunion in Liaocheng, Shandong, state news media CCTV said.

"My baby, you came back!" the mother, whose name was not disclosed, said in a video of the reunion.

The son's disappearance inspired a movie in 2015, "Lost and Love" which starred Hong Kong actor Andy Lau. People are now demanding a sequel.

Guo went through 10 motorcycles and traveled to all of China's provinces and regions for more than two decades.

When asked how he would get along with his son's adoptive parents, Guo said he would just "treat them as relatives," CCTV quoted him as saying.

Two suspects have been arrested. Police didn't release details about the family that bought Guo's son, Global Times said.
