Despite the fact that an official fourth stimulus check from the federal government appears improbable at this time, states are doing their part to ensure that federal stimulus money is distributed.

With the deadline for distributing the funds set for Dec. 31, some have already begun to distribute them where they're most needed. The following states have started, and residents may be eligible to receive stimulus money:

California

California is the only state that has issued a form of "stimulus" check using its own funds. Residents received actual checks in the amount of $500 or $600, in addition to $500 for households with dependent children, thanks to the state's unique tax system and thrifty budgeting.

Colorado

Those who received at least one unemployment benefit between Mar. 15, 2020 and Oct. 24, 2020 will get $375 from Colorado. According to CPR News, higher-income workers who get more than $500 a week in base unemployment benefits are not eligible.

Maryland

All state and municipal taxes on unemployment benefits have been repealed, and the legislation also included stimulus payments of $500 for families and $300 for individuals who filed for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

New Mexico

New Mexico's program intends to disburse $5 million to residents who did not qualify for federal assistance.

Florida

Florida allocated a $1000 check to most teachers and administrators. However, controversy ensued when Governor Ron DeSantis noticeably excluded several educators. The situation is still unfolding.

Georgia

Governor Brian Kemp has authorized all full-time teachers and administrators to receive $1,000 checks, while part-time instructors would receive $500. There is also a strategy in the works to provide for pre-K educators.

Michigan

Michigan paid out $500 hazard pay incentives to its teachers earlier this year, although a retention bonus, like Georgia and Florida, has yet to be announced.

Tennessee

Tennessee's state government enacted a bill in June that replaced an expected 2% raise with a $1,000 hazard pay bonus for full-time teachers. Part-time teachers are eligible for a $500 compensation.

Texas

Nothing has been confirmed for the entire state, but Fort Worth and Arlington will raise district employee pay by 4%. Denton and Mansfield will raise salaries by 2%, with Denton employees receiving a $500 bonus. Staff who return to the classroom in September in Irving will receive a 2,000 dollar payment.
