Following Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to accept his party's nomination for him to run for Vice President, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said she will no longer gun for the President's seat in the upcoming 2022 National Elections.

When asked about her father's vice presidential bid, Mayor Duterte-Carpio said she will no longer go for a national position next year because she and her father agreed that only one of them will vie for a national set come the next elections.

Moreover, the mayor also said that her father's decision does not impact her own election plans because they already had an agreement.

Following this development, the presidential daughter expressed her gratitude for everyone supporting her, saying it makes her happy that they are all united in their desire to see a better Philippines in the not so distant future.

As matters concerning her relationship with her father are also the subject of questions now, the mayor maintained that her relationship with her father is okay and strong as before. She reiterated that politics do not interfere with their family's relationships and that there is nothing personal.

As the mayor assures her personal relationship with her father has no setbacks, the same can't be said for their respective political parties, at least when it comes to support.

When asked if Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), Duterte-Carpio's regional party, will extend help for PDP-Laban when the 2022 National Elections come, the mayor said no and this time, she will not "share his light."

Duterte-Carpio certainly got a lot of hype from people wanting her to be the next Philippine president, topping recent presidential election surveys. Also, at least seven parties, including those of two former presidents, declared their support for the presidential daughter.

Meanwhile, speculations about the mayor being a late substitution during the election period is quashed, as she is not a member of any national party, making her ineligible as substitute candidate for the national polls.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for all positions will be given the green light by the Commission on Elections on October 1 and will last until October 8.
