Following a string of setbacks in the media landscape, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly contemplating a return to her acting roots.
The world watched in 2020 when Meghan and Prince Harry revealed their lucrative $20 million contract with Spotify, marking an ambitious chapter in their journey after royal duties. However, by June, the partnership soured, culminating in a single podcast series before the dissolution of their collaboration. Moreover, their much-anticipated 2022 Netflix docuseries, titled "Harry & Meghan," did not clinch an Emmy nomination, leaving fans and critics surprised.
But, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. Meghan received an unexpected morale boost when her former show "Suits" soared on Netflix. The legal drama, which bid farewell on the USA Network four years ago, has now clinched a new accolade as Netflix's most-watched series within a week of its release. An insider shared, "Its success in reruns indicates a potential clamor for Meghan's return to the screen. With limited opportunities knocking, Meghan is seriously considering an acting resurgence. Harry stands firmly by her decision."
Meghan, remembered for her portrayal of Rachel Zane across seven seasons of "Suits," had stepped away from the limelight in 2017, just before her high-profile wedding. Her early endeavors in Hollywood spanned an array of roles, from appearances in "General Hospital," "CSI," and "90210" to being a briefcase model on "Deal or No Deal." Last year, in a conversation with Variety, Meghan seemed adamant about not reverting to acting, asserting, "I'm done." Yet, she left the door ajar with her statement, "I guess never say never." As per the insider, "Meghan could always maintain it wasn't a premeditated move. Still, there must be a thrill brewing within her."
However, this potential decision does not sit well with everyone, especially the royal family. Despite Prince Harry's disclosure in his 2023 memoir "Spare" that King Charles III had once hinted at Meghan's continuation in acting due to financial constraints, the mood seems different now. "The royals are unlikely to endorse Meghan's return to the silver screen," the source added.
Unfazed by the royal standpoint, Meghan is geared up to showcase her prowess. The stakes are high for the Sussexes, and as the insider pointed out, "Both Meghan and Harry are on the edge; they can't afford another setback."
