Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's headline-making $100 million content deal with Netflix will officially conclude this fall without renewal, according to sources familiar with the matter. The 2020 agreement, struck at the height of the couple's post-royal rebranding, will transition into a non-exclusive, first-look arrangement as both parties shift their strategies.
"There's no animosity from either side," a Hollywood source told The Sun. "Things have just run their course." While the multi-year deal will end in September, both sides have signaled that collaborations may continue. "There are more TV projects coming soon with both the duke and duchess," a source told Page Six.
The non-renewal reflects Netflix's broader pivot away from sweeping, multi-project agreements, mirroring the evolution of its deal with Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground. Instead, the platform has embraced more targeted, first-look arrangements - an increasingly common move in an industry under financial pressure to trim overhead.
Despite the contract's expiration, Meghan Markle's With Love, Meghan - a lifestyle series showcasing her personal recipes, entertaining ideas, and conversations with celebrity guests - will return for a second season in September. Season one, which premiered March 4, garnered 5.3 million views and ranked No. 383 in Netflix's semiannual Engagement Report.
Netflix insiders defended the show's performance, noting that With Love, Meghan landed in the top 5% of over 7,500 shows and outpaced other lifestyle titles, including The Great British Baking Show, Chef's Table (seasons 1 and 2), and Queer Eye (season 9). On March 12, the series ranked tenth on Netflix's global Top 10, with 2.6 million views and 12.6 million hours watched, and cracked the top 10 in both the U.S. and U.K.
Markle also launched her lifestyle brand As Ever alongside the series, partnering with Netflix's consumer products division. CEO Ted Sarandos said in March, "We're a passive partner in Meghan's company, and it's a big discovery model for us right now." The brand has since released sold-out rosé wines and is preparing to launch a champagne line and holiday-themed goods.
"As a growing business, As Ever is continuing to explore growth opportunities that feel aligned with the brand's core values and quality standards," a source said. "The brand continues to evolve with new products that align with her vision for quality lifestyle goods at accessible price points."
Friends of Markle say she is focused on raising her children - Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 - and investing in women-led startups, including Midi Health, a virtual care clinic for women experiencing midlife hormonal change, and Clevr, an oat milk latte brand.
Markle, 43, confirmed on Emma Grede's Aspire podcast that her female founder series Confessions of a Female Founder was on pause. "I love that there's so much excitement and desire for another season, but I need to focus on my business," she said.
The couple's overall output for Netflix has included five projects, with their debut docuseries Harry & Meghan setting records as the most-watched documentary launch in the platform's history. Their polo documentary, released December 10, drew 500,000 views and ranked No. 3,436 on the Engagement Report.
"They're not unhappy with how things turned out - they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time," a source told The Sun. "Netflix were clever in that they got a hell of a lot of viewers for the first documentary series."
With Love, Meghan Season 2 was filmed alongside Season 1 in Montecito, California, where the couple resides. The new season, directed by Michael Steed, will feature Chrissy Teigen as its first guest star.
