It is expected that Vietnam and Malaysia will expand trade in livestock sector to release potentials and opportunities for businesses of both sides.

Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD), said that Vietnam would like to enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry, Malaysia (MOA) and international companies in livestock production during his visit to Livestock Asia Expo & Forum 2018 recently held in Kuala Lumpur. 

"This is a very good chance for Vietnamese enterprises to make cooperation with global enterprises for investing in technology and developing livestock production," Dr. Tran Thanh Nam said to Business Times.

He also added that the purpose to attend the event is to explore the technologies in this field and understanding the mechanisms of trading between both countries. Vietnam is seeking for partnership with the Malaysia's authorities and enterprises to enhance the sector's exportation to overseas markets.

During the exhibition, some Malaysian companies expressed interest in milk, beef and other products from Vietnam. In Malaysia, only 60% and 23% of domestic demand for milk and beef respectively are met by local companies.

What's more, in the opening ceremony of the event, General Director of DVS (Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia), Dato' Dr Quaza Nizamuddin Hassan Nizam said, "Malaysian milk consumption is approximately 20 litres a year and lags behind other nations such as United States and countries in Europe, which have a per capita milk consumption of between 100 and 150 litres a year."

Besides, Malaysian companies said that they could cooperate with their Vietnamese counterparts by supplying veterinary medicines and technologies of  processing and preserving livestock products.

Livestock Asia Expo & Forum 2018 was organized by UBM Malaysia and supported by MOA,  Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia, Department of Fisheries Malaysia and industry associations-Federation of Livestock Farmers' Associations of Malaysia.

This October, VIETSTOCK 2018 Expo & Forum, an international feed, livestock and meat industry show in Vietnam, will be launched in Ho Chi Minh City under the collaboration between MARD and UBM Malaysia. Dr. Tran Thanh Nam are inviting the Malaysian companies to join the event to enhance livestock cooperation between the two countries.
