Logitech announced its plan to acquire Blue Microphones - a popular sound hardware company - for USD$117 million in a cash to cash basis transaction.

Blue Microphones, a trusted and well-known brand among podcasters, streamers, and video content creators, has been taking over the audio sphere for quite some time already with its household products like Yeti and Snowball.

Logitech, on the other hand, is a Swiss company specializing in personal computer and mobile accessories like headsets, cameras, and microphones, for over 30 years. The name is as ubiquitous as brands like Philips, Creative, Sennheiser, and Plantronics.

Moreover, Logitech also offers a wide array of non-audio/video products such as computer mouse, wired and wireless keyboards, hard drives, remotes, and more others.

In its recent move to buy Blue Microphones, Logitech makes it clear that it is expanding into the podcasting business which in itself, is a rapidly growing endeavor in this era of self-publication.

Aside from podcasters and video streamers, Blue's product portfolio extends to the music recording industry via its high tier equipment.

Once acquired, Blue Microphones will join Logitech's ever-expanding brands like Ultimate Ears, Jaybird, ASTRO Gaming, just to mention a few. Ultimate Ears, for example, specializes in making high fidelity blue-tooth speakers with water-proof variants. Jaybird headsets, meanwhile, target athletic individuals looking for a lightweight and compact earphones.

According to Logitech chief executive officer, Bracken Darrell, in a recent blog post, the company's acquisition of Blue will further speed up its entry into the market.

"Logitech's acquisition of Blue Microphones will accelerate our entry into a growing market and offers another way for us to help bring people's passions (from music to blogging) to life. Joining with Blue is an adjacent opportunity for us - a new way to grow - with additional synergies related to our existing gaming, PC webcam and audio categories.  It's exciting!"

Blue's boss, John Maier, on the other hand, said that the company will continue to uphold its ideals of creating "cool stuff" for their main target market: musicians, gamers, podcasters, YouTubers, and streamers.

Their tie-up with Logitech is otherwise a partnership offering lots of "possibilities," given its counterparts' "vast resources and incredible reach."

In the same press release, the company's head announced: "some great new products" that are currently in development.

"The end result is fulfilling our ultimate purpose - helping as many of our users find and amplify their voice as we can!" Maier added in his blog post.
