Fans are now waiting for the coming of "13 Reasons Why" Season 3 on Netflix in spite of the controversies surrounding the show. In fact, the streaming giant's vice president, Cindy Holland, defended the series' renewal at the Television Critics Association.

"Look, it's a controversial show from the beginning," Holland said, per Mirror Online. "Honestly, the biggest consideration was, is there more story to be told and what is that story?"

"13 Reasons Why" is based on Jay Asher's novel about the teenage girl's, named Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), suicide. She left 13 cassette tapes that contained her reasons for ending her own life. Her close friend, Clay Jensen (Dylan Minette), got these tapes and the first season's final episode revealed a controversial "graphic suicide scene."

Since then, a lot of debates have emerged about the series. In spite of that, "13 Reasons Why" returned for a second season. Season 2 explored Hannah's school and the aftereffects of her suicide, which was connected to the other crimes at the educational institution. But, some of the viewers found rewriting Asher's story as shocking and exploiting.

So with the announcement of "13 Reasons Why" Season 3, the debates once again surfaced. Holland explained that they had "a very thoughtful conversation" about the show's continuation. She believed that they needed to reveal how the show's characters would move on and how Jessica would recover from her trauma.

"We felt we owed it to the characters as much as to the fans," she said. But, fans might not see Langford in "13 Reasons Why" Season 3 as she already confirmed her exit.

On the other hand, showrunner Brian Yorkey said that "13 Reasons Why" Season 3 still has a lot of stories to tell. However, he believed that these stories depend on viewers' reaction and if it is still important to tell that story.

"If there is a future for the show, to me, it's about these characters and not necessarily a new set of reasons or a new set of tapes," Yorkey added.

According to Otakukart, Netflix has begun the production of "13 Reasons Why Season 3." However, the streaming giant has yet to announce the show's official release date. But based on the previous installments' timeline, it might be out in 2019.

To recall, "13 Reasons Why" Season 1 was launched in March 2017. It was followed by "13 Reasons Why" Season 2 in May 2018. Hence, there is a strong possibility that "13 Reasons Why" Season 3 will be out in May 2019.
