Nvidia just released both the GeForce RTX 2080 and the more powerful RTX 2080 Ti in an event held a day prior to the 2018 Gamescom held in Cologne, Germany. The GPUs' releases were highly anticipated thanks to Nvidia's teasers days prior to the launch. Of course, the manufacturer did not fail to highlight the fact that these video cards will sport the company's Turing architecture as well as their RT cores designed for faster speed up real-time ray tracing.

While all these specs and feature are no doubt awe-inspiring, no one really knows just how good the new cards perform, especially when compared to Nvidia's older model GPUs. That is until now when somebody actually got hold of the GeForce RTX 2080 and compared it with the former top-of-the-line graphics card from Nvidia, the GTX 1080 Ti.

The result is, of course, just as how Nvidia marketed the newer models. Well, it was actually just the GeForce RTX 2080 that was tested and not the beefier RTX 2080 Ti but it is really better and outperformed their predecessors.

The verdict is thanks to Tum Apisak, a Thailand-based overclocker who ran the RTX 2080 through 3DMark Time Spy and compared it with the older GTX 1080 and the higher end GTX 1080 Ti, according to TechRadar. Thankfully, the resulting benchmarks were leaked online and gamers will now be more confident that swapping for the new RTX 2080 is the right decision.

The leaked results show that the GeForce RTX 2080 bested both the GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti by quite a large margin. The RTX 2080 was able to obtain an overall graphics score of 10,030 points. For comparison, that is almost 500 points higher than GTX 1080 Ti which only scored 9,508 and way above the original GTX 1080 which only got 7,325 points in the same benchmark. To put the benchmark scores in terms of percentages, the TRX 2080 is 5 percent faster than the GTX 1080 Ti and 35 faster than the GTX 1080.

Meanwhile, the RTX 2080 also bested the older GPUs in terms of the frames per second (FPS) rate, according to Digital Trends. The GeForce RTX 2080 averaged 64.53 FPS, which is slightly faster than GTX 1080 Ti's 61.14 FPS. Meanwhile, the GTX 1080 only managed 47.19 frames per second.

Gamers should be warned that the 3DMark benchmark did not specifically mention RTX 2080 but merely listed the hardware being tested as a "generic VGA card." The best way to verify these results is to wait for more tests as the Turning cards hit the market next month.
