The long wait is almost over! The 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards (MGA) is finally coming up next week, and the latest announcement sees a host of award-winning artists added to the line-up, including singer-songwriter Charlie Puth and K-pop group BTS.
The exciting news came to light when the organizers (via Yonhap News Agency) revealed on Monday, Oct. 29 that Charlie Puth and BTS - also known as Bangtan Boys - will join forces for an epic performance at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards 2018. They join previously announced performers, boy band Wanna One and girl group, Twice.
The MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards, an annual music awards ceremony hosted by media company MBC Plus and music production company Genie Music, is expected to take place on Nov. 6 at the Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea.
BTS' attendance at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards 2018 comes as no surprise to many as the K-pop group has been nominated in all four Daesang (grand prize) categories. These are Artist of the Year, Best Selling Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for "Fake Love" and "IDOL," and Digital Album of the Year for "Love Yourself: Answer."
As of press time, BTS is leading the Digital Album of the Year category with more than 1,375,557 votes, while Wanna One's "1-1=0 (Nothing Without You)" comes in second with 1,348,211 votes. "Love Yourself: Answer," in particular, received positive reviews from critics upon its released last Aug. 24. Many praised the boy band's message to the youth about self-love and empowerment.
"We tried to show the emotional development of a young man through love," BTS' main rapper and leader RM said when asked about the album, as quoted by Korea Boo. "We tried to send the message that loving yourself is where true love begins."
Due to this, "Love Yourself: Answer" subsequently debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart, selling 1,933,450 copies during the last eight days of August. It also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and earned the "Double Million Seller" certification from the Korea Music Content Association for selling over 2 million copies.
In other related news, BTS is set to make their cinematic debut with the release of "Burn the Stage: The Movie" on Nov. 15. The movie, helmed by Park Jun Soo and produced by Big Hit Entertainment / Camp Entertainment, will feature footage from group's live dates, behind-the-scenes footage and brand-new one-on-one interview with the members.
