tvN's "Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" is off to a good start. The fantasy romance television series, starring Moon Chae Won and Yoon Hyun Min, has debuted at number one on the weekly TV chart.
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea just released the Content Power Index (CPI) ranking which measures the level of popularity, social media presence and influence on consumer behavior of entertainment TV programs aired KBS, SBS, MBC, OCN, Mnet and tVN during prime time.
The data, obtained by Yonhap News Agency, showed tvN's "Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" took the first place with a record of 255.7 total points for the week of Nov. 5-11, easily besting time slot rivals SBS' "Where Stars Land," KBS 2TV's "Matrimonial Chaos," and MBC's "Bad Papa."
The news does not come as a surprise for many as "Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" features an interesting and promising premise. For those who are unfamiliar, the said TV series follows a 699-year-old fairy, Sun Ok Nam (Moon Chae Won), who has lived since the Koryeo dynasty but has lost her wings and thus unable to ascend to heaven.
In the present time, she works as a barista at a cafe on Gyeryong Mountain. There, she meets two men, Jung Yi Hyun (Yoon Hyun Min) and Kim Geum (Seo Ji Hoon), one of whom she believes is very likely the reincarnation of her former husband who died after accidentally falling down a cliff.
To make things more exciting, the tvN series also stars Kang Mi Na ("Children of the 20th Century" as Sun Ok Nam's daughter, Jum Soon Yi, who is actually a tiger. She can evolve into a human being after going through a thorough training.
Not long after the CPI ranking came to light, Moon Chae Won said in an interview (via Soompi) that she would recommend "Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" to those who have had a one-sided crush, those who have waited for their boyfriends that have gone off to the military, and long-distance couples. She added: "I think those people will enjoy the drama."
As for veteran actress Go Doo Shim ("Our Gab-Soon"), who plays the older Sun Ok Nam, "Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" is a one-of-a-kind show where people of different ages from across the world can watch.
"Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter" airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 PM (KST) on tvN.
