Fans of "Go Back Couple" star Jang Na Ra are in for a treat. The 37-year-old actress and musician will be returning to the small screen soon via SBS' newest drama "The Last Empress."

Ahead of its eagerly awaited premiere, Jang Na Ra revealed why she chose "The Last Empress" as her comeback drama. She said she chose the project due to its promising premise, which will benefit from the creativity of producing director (PD) Joo Dong Min ("Return" and "The Family Is Coming") and screenwriter Kim Sun Ok ("Unni Is Alive" and "Temptation of Wife").

"The script was so interesting," Jang Na Ra said during a press conference for "The Last Empress" on Nov. 20, Tuesday, as quoted by Soompi. "The synopsis was like an entire book, but I read it in one sitting... I wanted to show a more variegated style of acting, and this was like an answer to my prayer."

Jang Na Ra also revealed her first impression of her co-star, Shin Sung Rok. She initially thought the actor was a bad person due to his portrayal of villain Lee Jae Kyung in the 2013-2014 drama "My Love from the Star." After getting to know him, she realized he is a very kind and smart person.

In "The Last Empress," Jang Na Ra plays a musical actress, Oh Ssu Ni, who ends up marrying Emperor Lee Hyuk (Shin Sung Rok). Her life suddenly turns upside down when she later falls in love with the imperial family's bodyguard, Na Wang Sik (Choi Jin Hyuk).

Na Wang Sik actually came to the palace to take revenge on the person responsible for his mother's death. Together, he and Oh Ssu Ni will do whatever it takes to ultimately bring down the monarchy.

Also starring in "The Last Empress" are Lee Elijah ("Fight for My Way") as Min Yoo Ra, Shin Eun Kyung ("The Village: Achiara's Secret") as Empress Dowager Kang, Park Won Suk ("Dear My Friends") as Grand Empress Dowager Jo, Lee Hee Jin ("The Lady in Dignity") as Princess Sojin, Oh Seung Yun ("The Sun in the Sky") as Yi Yoon, Yoon So Yi ("Yeah, That's How It Is") as Seo Kang Hee and Yoon Joo Man ("Mr. Sunshine") as Ma Pil Joo.

"The Last Empress" is set to premiere on Nov. 21, Wednesday at 10:00 PM (KST) on SBS. While waiting, check out the 30-second trailer below:
