It looks like "Prometheus: War of Fire" will remain as a dream for k-drama fans. Actor Jin Goo, who was set to play the lead male role, has announced he is leaving the project for good.
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, BH Entertainment (via Soompi) announced Jin Goo ("Descendants of the Sun") would not appear in the new television series, "Prometheus: War of Fire." No specific reason was given by his management company.
Following Jin Goo's departure, Park Ki Woong - who gained widespread fame after starring in 2009's "The Slingshot" and 2012's "Bridal Mask") - also announced that he would no longer participate in the said project.
Due to this, Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has decided not to air the action-spy drama series through the channel.
This comes more than a month after actress Ha Ji Won ("Empress Ki" and "Secret Garden") dropped out of the drama series due to a scheduling conflict. She was supposed to play a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent, Chae Eun Seo, who is tasked with a secret mission to denuclearize North Korea.
Jin Goo, on the other hand, was tapped to play the lead male role of Park Hoon, a military officer for the North Korean embassy. After he gets involved in an incident while residing in Moscow, Russia, he moves back to South Korea and works as a day laborer on a pier.
Lastly, Park Ki Woong was supposed to play a North Korean ambassador named Choi Ryong Soo. He used to have a close relationship with Park Hoon until an unfortunate event creates tension between them.
Nonetheless, production company JL Media Group assured k-drama fans "Prometheus: War of Fire" would push through. They have been holding auditions to cast lead and other supporting roles.
"We will release official announcement in a few days," an official from the production company, JMedia Group, said in a statement obtained by Hello Kpop. "Please wait for the official position."
"Prometheus: War of Fire" follows North Korean nuclear scientists who suddenly disappear in an unspecified foreign country during a time when global political powers are trying to denuclearize the world.
The project is said to be the most expensive South Korean television series to be created with an estimated budget of $26.5 million (KRW30 billion). As per previous reports, the filming will reportedly take place in South Korea and five international countries.
