Qualcomm complains that Apple continues selling the banned iPhone products in China. The company said that the latter is breaching a Chinese court order.
A Chinese court released an injunction against Apple earlier this week. The injunction bans the sales of old model iPhones in China. The banned phones run with a Qualcomm chip. Apple, however, pushed back saying that the ban only applies to their devices running on an older operating system. The new iPhones run its latest IOS 12 software. Qualcomm is currently waiting for the court to fully enforce the injunction.
Apple released a statement on Monday saying that Qualcomm's effort to ban there is another desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world. The injunction is related to two Qualcomm patents that enable users to adjust and reformat photos and manage applications using the touch screen when they are viewing and navigating applications on their smartphones.
According to reports, a California company, the Cupertino, still sells all the banned devices in the country. The CNBC reported that Qualcomm showed a video to the Chinese court exposing that iPhones are being stocked and sold to consumers. Apple failed to release a comment on the CNBC report.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the Chinese court found evidence that proves that Apple infringed the two Qualcomm patents. Qualcomm said on the interview with the Wall Street Journal that the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court in China ruled the injunction. The injunction was released at the end of November. It was the first time that Apple was told to freeze its distribution of iPhone devices. The injunction heightened the on-going fight between Apple and Qualcomm.
The start of the enforcement of the injunction is not yet clear. It is, however, expected to greatly affect Apple's revenues. The company is currently struggling in its operations because of the effects of the trade war between China and the United States. According to reports, Apple's sales are dropping these recent weeks. The sales data shows how Apple struggles to improve its sales in the Chinese Market. The latest iPhone models are not listed among the devices that are prohibited to be marketed in China. The banned phones included the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The banned phones covered the 10 percent to 15 percent of iPhone sales in the country.
