Fans of EXO's D.O. are in for a holiday treat! The 25-year-old singer-turned-actor is gearing up to reprise his role in the upcoming third installment of the popular "Along with the Gods" franchise.
D.O., whose real name is Do Kyung Soo, will be playing a depressed soldier, Private Won Dong Yeon, for the third time in the follow-up to the recently released "Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days."
The good news was confirmed by director Kim Yong Hwa, who also revealed that the much-awaited third installment of "Along with the Gods" will kick off production sometime in 2021. Just like the previous installments, the third and fourth films will be shot simultaneously, according to Korean news outlet Star News, as cited by Hello Kpop.
Other than that, director Kim Yong Hwa kept mum on plot details. Nonetheless, speculations are rife that D.O.'s role will play a huge part in the upcoming "Along with the Gods" sequel.
As per speculations, the third installment will pick up immediately after the end of "Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days" and will tell the story of Private Won Dong Yeon going through the seven hells. He will also reportedly face various trials and tribulations in the afterlife.
D.O.'s participation in the third installment of "Along with the Gods" did not come as a surprise. In a previous interview, director Kim Yong Hwa has praised the Hallyu star for his diligence and tenacity.
"I wondered how he was able to prepare for the shoot perfectly even after performing on stage all night," director Kim Yong Hwa said in a previous interview, as quoted by Soompi. "[D.O.] is incredible for being able to endure all of the immense pressure... [He] is very mature for his young age. Even though I'm 20 years older than him, I had a lot to learn from him," he added.
While waiting for the third and fourth installments of "Along with the Gods," fans can check EXO's D.O. out in Kang Hyeong Cheol's recently released musical drama film, "Swing Kids." In the film, he plays a rebellious North Korean soldier, Ro Ki Soo, who falls in love with tap dancing.
Also starring in "Swing Kids" are Kim Min Ho as Xiao Fang, Park Hye Su as Yang Pan Rae, Oh Jung Se as Kang Byung Sam, Jared Grimes as Jackson, A.J. Simmons as Jamie and Ross Kettle as Brigadier General Roberts.
