South Korean actress Han Hyo Joo will soon be back on the small screen. This time, she will star in an upcoming American action drama television series titled "Treadstone."
Han Hyo Joo's casting in the upcoming action drama TV series "Treadstone" came to light on Tuesday, Jan. 15. She has been cast to play a wife and mother, So Yun, who must make difficult choices that compromise her quiet family life in North Korea after she starts to learn about her secret past, according to Soompi.
The 31-year-old actress joins previously announced actors Brian J. Smith ("Sense8" and "Quantico"), Jeremy Irvine ("War Horse" and "Great Expectations"), Omar Metwally ("The Affair" and "Mr. Robot"), Gabrielle Scharnitzky ("The Game" and "Wolfenstein: The Old Blood"), Tracy Ifeachor ("The Originals" and "Doctor Who"), and Emilia Schüle ("Berlin Station" and "Gangs").
Brian J. Smith will play an all-American oil-rig worker, Dough McKenna; Jeremy Irvine as a CIA spy, J. Randolph Bentley; Omar Metwally as a CIA agent, Mr. Edwards; Gabrielle Scharnitzky as a no-nonsense Russian patriot, Petra; Tracy Ifeachor as an investigative journalist, Tara Coleman and Emilia Schüle as a Russian KGB agent.
"Treadstone" will benefit from the creativity of screenwriter and television producer Tim Kring. He will also serve as an executive producer along with Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Justin Levy, Jeffrey Weiner, Ben Smith, and Ramin Bahrani.
Based on the popular "Bourne" film franchise, "Treadstone" follows a covert program known as Operation Treadstone that uses behavior-modification protocol to turn black ops agents into nearly superhuman assassins. Principal photography for the series is expected to begin this year. It will premiere on USA Network.
"As the No. 1 cable entertainment network for the past 12 years, USA Network is delivering a dynamic lineup of big, bold programming - and what could be bigger and bolder than the Treadstone mythology?," said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement obtained by Deadline.
For those who are unfamiliar, Han Hyo Joo gained widespread fame after starring in the 2006 romance melodrama "Spring Waltz." She most recently appeared opposite actor Lee Jong Suk in the 2016 fantasy romance series "W - Two Worlds."
Her performance as Oh Yeon Joo - a second-year resident doctor in the Thoracic Surgery Department of Myung Se Hospital - in the said show earned her numerous awards, including the APAN Star Award and MBC Drama Award for Best Actress.
