Fast & Furious spin-off film Hobbs and Shaw, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham, recently wrapped up production and released its first teaser. But, as for Fast & Furious 9, Johnson confirmed he wouldn't be returning in the film.

In an interview with MTV News, Johnson revealed there are no plans for him to be in the Fast & Furious 9, although he hasn't ruled out future films in the franchise.

"The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand," he said. The Rock also explained Fast 9 is just getting ready to start shooting, and who knows, he might be in Fast 10. He said there's still unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom.

Johnson this "unfinished business" might have something to do with the real-life feud between The Rock and co-star Vin Diesel, which started during the production of The Fate of The Furious. The feud was reportedly baldy enough where they decided to split up the franchise.

There are also some issues with another co-star Tyrese Gibson as he was upset Hobbs & Shaw pushed back Fast 9's release date. But then, he admitted he acted unprofessionally in public when he called The Rock selfish.

Meanwhile, if ever Johnson wouldn't return to the main series of films, there are still other opportunities in the universe for Hobbs. The Rock said spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw will be "the biggest showdown the FAST & FURIOUS franchise has ever seen," likely throwing subtle shade at the main franchise led by Diesel.

Johnson and Statham will be taking Hobbs & Shaw to the next level, including Idris Elba as the villain. There will also be new characters such as Vanessa Kirby as Shaw's sister, Eiza Gonzalez as the badass Madam M, WWE star Roman Reigns as Hobbs' brother.

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw will hit the theaters this coming July 26, 2019, while Fast & Furious 9 is reportedly slated for release on April 10th, 2020.
