Chinese technology provider Lenovo topped computer sales in the fourth quarter of 2018, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed on Monday. The company's sales overtook that of American producer HP.

Data provided by the IDC revealed that Lenovo accounted for 31.7 percent of the 219,000 news laptops and desktops sold in Israel, according to Xinhua. HP placed second as it garnered 27.7 percent of the total sales. Next in line is another U.S. provider, Dell, with 20.4 percent of the sales.

These three companies have been battling it out in sales in international markets and while it was expected that they would make it to the top list, analysts were taken by surprise when Ivory made it to the top 5.

Ivory is an Israeli computer seller that retails different brands across the country. IDC data revealed that the company accounted for 3.3 percent of sales in the last quarter of 2018.

While overall computer sales in Israel dropped by 3.7 percent in Q4 2018, it is worth noting that all top 3 computer brands leveraged on all market categories to sell their products. These categories are educational institutions, private entities and individuals, and organizations.

Meanwhile, Lenovo shares are making a good impression in the stock market in short-term margins. The Chinese tech giant's stocks closed 1.92 percent higher for the week and advanced 14.26 percent over the past month.

According to Richland Standard, Lenovo has been showing good short-term signs of growth in 2018. Over the past six months, the tech provider moved up by 33.87 percent and for the past year, the Hong Kong-based company's shares grew by 26.62 percent.

A lot of analysts and tech experts are looking forward to what Lenovo has to offer in 2019. By the end of last year, the company partnered with Scale Computings to develop an edge infrastructure project. The project aims to cater to distributed enterprises, international retailers, and SMEs (small- and medium-sized businesses).

Previously, the tech provider joined hands with NetApp in a bid to improve storage product sales in China, SDX Central reported. The company is aiming to appeal to various industries by addressing customer needs in the IoT, hybrid cloud computing, 5G networks, and security embedding in software and hardware industries.

Chief Customer Officer at Lenovo Data Center Group, Rod Lappin said, "These are the trends we see, and based on the customer's feedback, here are some options we have to address your needs."
