Apple's iPhone allegedly compromised with AT&T's fake 5G promotion by showing the network's misleading 5G icon.

Surprised Apple users expressed their rants through Tweeter and seek explanation upon seeing AT&T's alleged fake 5G icon on their iPhones. The icons appeared after they have updated to iOS 12.2 Beta 2 which was released this morning.

The 5G logo which actually shows 5GE which means 5G Evolution was allegedly designed to confuse users with the letter E made smaller. Matching the iPhone's menu bar, one look can tell that it is actually 5G that is shown. 5GE runs the same as the traditional LTE speeds of 400Mb/s.

The 5G branding indication appeared specifically on the network indicator space of some Apple's newest XR, XS, and XS Max iPhones who upgraded to the latest iOS 12.2 Beta 2. Not everyone who updated encountered the same alleged AT&T's fake 5G icon since the incident only happened in places where the 5G network is expected to roll out.

The news about the alleged AT&T's face 5G icon is nothing new to many as Android phone users faced the same problem back in January. Users using an upgraded version of AT&T's 4G LTE noticed the indication of 5G connectivity on their Android phones. iPhone users were surprised to see that even Apple indulged in the alleged network deception.

The Verge describes AT&T and the tech giant in brief statement saying if you can't beat them, you roll out a software update to make it look like you did even though the phones and network are still exactly the same.

Back in 2012, Apple also created a buzz online when iPhone users noticed an indication of a 4G and LTE update on their signal indicators when in fact they have not even upgraded. Users were then connected to the same LTE network, running the same software and hardware. No unlocking of latent capability and software updates even took place.

A misleading indication as some would address because Apple is expected to release their first ever 5G iPhones not earlier than 2020. Rumors are now surfacing that the tech giant compromised in displaying AT&T's alleged fake 5G icon to keep pace with the real 5G phones set to be released soon.

Huawei, LG, and Samsung are expected to roll out their flagship 5G phones. The Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona this month will signal the official release of the first set of 5G phones in the market, according to Mac Rumors.
