Riley Davis (played by Tristin Mays) is going to have to figure out how to help herself and her dad, Elwood Davis, in this week's episode of MacGyver season 3. Billy Baldwin has returned to guest star in the series following his appearance in a Christmas episode in season 2.
MacGyver season 3 episode 16, titled Lidar + Rogues + Duty, will have Riley on the hunt of a hacker. According to the episode synopsis, this person tried to trick the SWAT team into arresting Riley and her father, which does not bid well for Elwood's record.
Riley has been estranged from her father for years, but he moved back in town in MacGyver season 2 to rebuild his relationship with his daughter. Mac (played by Lucas Till) and Jack (played by George Eads) warned Elwood back then that, should he hurt Riley, the old man would be answerable to them. However, he proved himself to be sober and committed to bringing his life in order, and Riley agreed that they could slowly renew their ties.
Elwood's return in MacGyver season 3 episode 16 comes at the right time, too, since Jack has been deployed on a different mission. Riley had always looked up to Jack as a father figure before her real father came back into her life.
Elsewhere in MacGyver season 3 episode 16, the team's next mission would be to recover the body of a pilot in a plane crash. The pilot was testing out a laser mapping system that, as it turns out, was designed by Mac. Will he feel guilty about this death?
In related news, the production of MacGyver has recently been slapped with a fine of $9,472 from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as per Deadline. This stemmed from an accident on the show's Atlanta set last August, where stunt coordinator Justin Sundquist was seriously injured.
The report stated that Sundquist hurt his head badly when he fell off a moving vehicle during one stunt. He had to undergo brain surgery and has to be in a coma. The stunt man, who also worked on Hawaii Five-O, is expected to make a long recovery and rehabilitation.
The OSHA cited the CBS production for failing to provide ample safety and protection measures for its employees. OSHA was prompted to investigate MacGvyer after another stuntman was also injured on the set.
Meanwhile, CBS has not yet renewed MacGyver for season 4 as of press time. The show averages over six million viewers on its Friday night slot.
