In our world nowadays, it is almost impossible to be healthy. Our body needs a lot of minerals and vitamins to function perfectly. Unfortunately, most of the time our nutritional goal is often not met.
There are plenty of reasons why our body isn't able to have enough minerals and vitamins that it needs. One of those is because of health issues. Illnesses like diabetes drain the body's specific minerals and vitamins like B complex and ascorbic acid. Given this reason, it is indeed important to take supplements to fill everything that was once lost.
Experts advise some of the supplements that a person should take. Doing so, your body will surely be thankful for.
Michelle Lau, a registered nutritionist, nutrition educator and founder of Hong Kong-based consultancy named Nutrilicious, explained how it is nearly impossible to "meet all of our nutrients needs all of the time" just by food alone.
Sudha Nair, another expert from the Hong Kong health clinic Balance Health, seconded what Lau has said. To her, Earth's soil is now overly depleted that food will no longer be as healthy as what it was before. So no matter how much we try to choose a healthier diet, there will be no perfect meal that can satisfy our body's need, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
Given this reason, Lau's best-recommended supplement is multivitamin. Just make sure the supplement you will choose has zero-calorie, high-potency, and can supply your daily needs for vitamins and minerals.
Denise Fair, a dietitian at Hong Kong's Central Health Medical Practice, explained how important it is to include magnesium in your everyday diet by saying, "Magnesium is often overlooked but it is involved in over 300 body processes, though it's most known for its roles in energy production and nervous system function."
Furthermore, magnesium can also help in creating a peaceful, healthy and beautiful sleep. This mineral can also be effective in supporting bone health, which can help prevent osteoporosis.
Aside from taking magnesium supplements, you can also eat foods that are rich in it. These foods include dried fruits, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, and avocado and banana, according to Vital Choice.
Other supplements that you might want to consider taking are omega-3 (considered as one of the healthiest fats), vitamin D (also known as the sunshine vitamin), probiotics (used to balance the body's microbiome), protein powder (helps in meeting our protein needs), and antioxidants (reduce harmful inflammation and free radical damage).
