Unforgotten season 4 is coming back for more stories on ITV in the U.K. The network renewed the series in September 2018, but fans of the detective drama have yet to learn the actual release date.
According to Metro, it's hard to speculate on the new season's release date since the previous installments did not follow a set schedule. Unforgotten debuted on television in October 2015, while season 2 and season 3 started its run in January 2017 and July 2018 respectively.
It is possible for Unforgotten season 4 to hit the small screen sometime in late 2019. However, there are also speculations that the series could return in the spring of 2020 since it's unclear where production is at this point.
The show aired the final episode of Unforgotten season 3 in August 2018 and creator Chris Lang told Digital Spy that he wasn't keen on working on another season. Unforgotten season 4 rarely happened until Lang decided to proceed with the series at the last minute.
"I got to the end of writing season three, and wasn't sure, one way or another, whether I wanted to write another one," Lang said. He realized during post-production that they had to finish the story in Unforgotten season 4. "Then I just said to my co-executives that I wanted to do another one. Unequivocally, I knew," Lang confirmed.
Unforgotten season 4 will once again bring back Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar as detectives Cassie Stuart and Sunny Khan. The new installment will be told in six parts, as with the other seasons, where the two detectives deal with a cold case hence the show's title.
Other casting details to Unforgotten season 4 have been kept off the press, aside from the return of Walker and Bhaskar. Since every season delves on a new case, it is assumed that there will be many new faces in the forthcoming series, as well as a new killer.
ITV stated in its press release that the fourth season would have an "empathetic approach and powerful performances." The network expressed confidence that the new story will once again spark viewers' interest in the whodunnit caper.
Director Andy Wilson, however, has been confirmed to be back behind the camera. Some regular cast members, such as Peter Egan, Carolina Main, and Jassa Ahluwalia, are also expected to appear in Unforgotten season 4.
