The FBI's Cointel team will be in custody of a key planner among Mikael Tal's network in The Enemy Within season 1 episode 6. But his capture will come at a price so the Cointel has to move fast.

According to the episode synopsisThe Enemy Within season 1 episode 6 will open with a bomb explosion in New Jersey. The Cointel, however, arrests Sam Fathi (played by Rudy Roushi), who may possibly lead the FBI to their leader.

But Sam is a hard captive to break, and the clock is still ticking as there is apparently another bomb set to blow. Thus, Erica Shepherd (played by Jennifer Carpenter) advises Will Keaton (played by Morris Chestnut) to seek the help of a former intelligence officer from Egypt. The Enemy Within season 1 episode 6 will air on Monday, April 1, at 10:00 p.m. on NBC.

By now, Keaton should have had enough trust or faith in Shepherd telling the truth. She did, after all, prove in the previous episode of The Enemy Within that she isn't one of Tal's mole.

In The Enemy Within season 1 episode 5, Shepherd tried to convince Keaton that it's Anna Cruz (played by Coral Pena) who's been working with Tal all along. To prove her point, Keaton tries to bait Anna by letting her access some confidential files.

The trap initially blew up on Shepherd's face until she made Keaton and the rest of the team see the connection between Anna and the Russian terrorist. Finally, Keaton agreed to take a road trip with Anna to convince her to flip and spill the details on Tal.

But when Keaton almost succeeded in convincing Anna, a sniper bullet fatally wounded and killed the spy. Now, Cointel's trail on Tal goes cold again until this upcoming episode.

The Enemy Within is set up like The Blacklist, which also airs on NBC. Carpenter plays the former CIA agent who made a poor judgment call three years ago when she shared classified information to Tal to keep her daughter safe.

Shepherd has been languishing in prison until Keaton was asked to consult with her. Apparently, Tal's network has grown bigger and they needed someone who knows how this man's mind works.

But this doesn't mean that Shepherd is back to working with the government. The show isn't also saying that she's one of the bad guys.

"It's too narrow to think of it in terms of good or bad, or villain or not," Carpenter said of her character, as per Variety. "[I'm] still watching in slow motion this chip that is Erica Shepherd fall. And that's the fun of it: it's like batting a balloon back in the air."

The Enemy Within premiered on NBC last February 25, 2019, as a mid-season schedule replacement. The show also stars Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman and Noah Mills.
