Does Monster Musume season 2 finally have a release date? Rumors have it that the show might hit the screens around the end of 2019.
But with no official confirmation from the creator, Okayado, and the producers Seven Seas Entertainment and Lerche Studio, it might be a while before fans could finally watch new episodes of the popular animated series. What could be delaying the release of Monster Musume season 2?
Monster Musume first debuted with 12 episodes that aired from July to September 2015. Subsequently, two OVAs were released in November 2016 and April 2017.
Fans expected Monster Musume season 2's release sometime last 2018, however, Okayado's health took an unexpected turn. According to Anime News Network, the illustrator announced he will need to take a break from work on Monster Musume to deal with his mental health. Unfortunately for the fans, Okayado did not say when he's coming back and since then, the anime world has been awaiting news about his recovery and the production of the series.
However, a listing on MyAnimeList seemed to suggest that Monster Musume is done for good. Under the status, the anime has been cited as "finished airing" and it seems some fans believe that Okayado no longer plans to do the second season.
But other fans argue there's still plenty of material to source out for Monster Musume season 2. Okayado finished 14 volumes for the manga but the animated series haven't even touched on at least half of these.
Monster Musume centers on the co-existence of humans and monsters. With the government's "Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act," harming and procreation is prohibited between humans and monsters.
But the show's main character, Kimihito Kurusu, has a harem of monster girls (liminals) and it's getting harder for him to manage his situation. Eventually, these monsters fall in love Kimihito and fight for his affection in Monster Musume.
When the government decided to amend the law to allow procreation, Kimihito faced a new dilemma as he's supposed to marry one of the monster girls. It's a tough call for him because wherever his decision goes, his household is bound to get more troublesome and messier.
The show has been lauded for both its humor and creative storylines. Monster Musume season 1 mostly introduced the world and the characters to a different audience. Season 2, on the other hand, could focus on Kimihito dating his monster girls individually to make his choice. Thus, it could potentially become a funnier romantic comedy.
Meanwhile, after a few months of hiatus, Okayado seems to have returned on social media. However, he hasn't addressed anything about Monster Musume season 2 as of press time.
