American Gods season 2 episode 5 will finally follow-up on the story of Mad Sweeney (played by Pablo Schreiber) and Laura Moon (played by Emily Browning). Airing on Sunday, April 7, the two will be headed to New Orleans where Mad Sweeney will seek some of his old friends who practice voodoo healing.
The teaser to American Gods season 2 episode 5 shows Mad Sweeney and Laura together after they went their separate ways in the third episode. Viewers will recall that Mr. Wednesday (played by Ian McShane) took Laura with him on his trip to kill Argus (played by Christopher Lloyd).
Laura's decomposing body was recharged after this kill. However, Mr. Wednesday left her to fend for herself while her body recovered on American Gods season 2. But all this time, Mad Sweeney was trying to find a way to completely bring Laura back to her life and her old self. He's been harboring such a pang of guilt and responsibility for her since he's the one who took her life.
Meanwhile, fans of American Gods were finally introduced to New Media (played by Kahyun Kim) to replace season 1's Media (played by Gillian Anderson). This new character has a hold on technology and other modern devotions and was not in the graphic novels that the series was based.
Kim told Collider that she was nervous about playing New Media because the character was already established in American Gods season 1. But then the producers told her she would not be recreating the part the Anderson played, so it helped her loosen up a knowing she can do her own interpretation with the character.
"It also helped that everybody was so welcoming, including Neil, our showrunner, and all of the writers," Kim said. "And the cast is just fantastic. They're so supportive. I've never felt like I was late in the game. They invited me out, the second day that I was in Toronto, so it was pretty easy to dive into Season 2."
Kim has already appeared in American Gods season 2 episode 3 and 4. She will sit out episode 5 since the episode will go back to Mad Sweeney's attempt to resurrect Laura.
Meanwhile, the rest of the story on American Gods season 2 episode 5 will also focus on Shadow (played by Ricky Whittle) with Mr. Ilbis (Demore Barnes) and Mr. Nancy (played by Orlando Jones). Shadow will be oriented to the ways of the dead in this episode.
American Gods season 2 episode 5 will air on Sunday, April 7, at 9:00 p.m. on Starz.
