Domestic Girlfriend debuted last Jan. 12 on Animeism on MBS in Japan. Adapted and produced by Diomedea, the anime was also simulcast through Sentai Filmworks in some North American and Australian territories.

The show, which is also known as Domestic na Kanojo, quickly gained in popularity even in its short run of 12 episodes for the first season. Following its January premiere, Domestic Girlfriend aired its season 1 finale last March 30.

Now fans of the anime series have been wondering if Domestic Girlfriend season 2 will be confirmed, but Diomedea still does not have an official announcement or a scheduled production date. The series is currently listed as "not yet renewed" in the Anime database although fans have high hopes that there will be more to the series since it has a large following.

Based on the Japanese manga series from Kei Sasuga, Domestic Girlfriend was originally published every Tuesday. To date, the manga has more than 200 chapters out, which means there are still more materials for the writers to develop for the second season.

By the time the TV series ended its run, the Japanse manga version was already up to volume 22. Volume 23 is also expected to come out in the summer of 2019, while the English translations of Volume 16 and 15 will be available by May for its North American followers.

The TV adaptation of Domestic Girlfriend, however, diverged and mixed up the chapters of the manga series. The anime episodes reached until around Chapter 76 but most of the scenes in the finale episode where condensed versions of different chapters.

According to Monsters & Critics, however, Domestic Girlfriend ended almost similar to its manga source. Thus, if the show does receive a second and even a third season renewal, it will still be easy to follow the original storylines.

Domestic Girlfriend is about a boy named Natsuo Fujii who has strong romantic feelings for Hina, his teacher. He regards her as his first love, but since they cannot be together, he has to forget about her. One day, Natsuo goes to a party where he meets Rui Tachibana. They get real close and intimate, which was Natsuo's first time with a girl.

Back at home, Natsuo's dad tells him that he's remarrying and that he's introducing his new girlfriend and her family to his son. To Natsuo's surprise, the woman her dad plans to marry, Tokiko Tachibana, has two adult daughters. One of them is Hina, Natsuo's teacher, and the younger one is Rui.

Domestic Girlfriend revolves around Natsuo's conflicts for his new step-sisters. Critics hailed the story for its melodramatic but realistic storyline.
