Game of Thrones season 8 episode 1 will air on Sunday, April 14, but the show recently had its premiere event in New York City. A leaked video to this exclusive party revealed that the show had gotten a new intro.
It was Carice van Houten (as Melisandre the Red Witch) who leaked the video of Game of Thrones season 8 episode 1 on her Instagram story, and it eventually made its way to a forum on Reddit. The intro still has that familiar theme music and 3-D mechanisms, but much of the setting has changed.
The opening credits now begin with a shot of the Wall which the Night King's wicked ice dragon destroyed in the finale of Game of Thrones season 7. It also features what looks like the House Umber or the Last Hearth, the home of the bannermen for the Stark family.
This will be the very first village that the Night King's army will encounter, which could spell bad news for the Umbers. Their leader, Ned, who promised his alliance and loyalty to Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington), is barely in his teens. Will it be quite easy for the Night King's men to sweep this town dead since their leader is so young?
Meanwhile, at the actual premiere party of Game of Thrones season 8 in New York, the voices of Sophie Turner (as Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (as Arya Stark) warned the audience not to post spoilers or leak information regarding what they've watched. Though the event was attended by the press, most reviews online have been careful not to reveal the details of the first episode.
However, The Telegraph reported that Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) found out the huge problem Viserion created under the influence of the Night King. The real parentage of Jon Snow was also made known to those involved in Game of Thrones season 8 episode 1.
A large battle affecting troves of people, however, was not yet in place in Game of Thrones season 8 episode 1. If anything, this episode was surprisingly filled with humor, as per the review on GQ.
Meanwhile, there have been rumors that Daenerys could end up killing Varys later in the series. There are also whispers that Gendry might be the one to sit on the Iron Throne by the season finale.
Game of Thrones season 8 will have six episodes only. The show will have its big worldwide premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 14, at 9:00 p.m.
